ScottJSmithNY's Full Review: Palm Treo 270 Smartphone
I love this unit. I hated carrying a PDA AND a cellphone. I also hate carrying LARGE units. The 270 is compact, a full PDA and a hightech phone. I also like flip phones, protects the keyboard/screen and is better for talking in noisy environments.
The main drawback is the same as ANY electronic device with a LCD screen, the brighter the sunlight, the harder to see the screen. Get used to using the keyboard also, on a bright sunny day, especially on snow, it's almost impossible to see the screen.
I love the speakerphone. If it's noisy around you, you can pump up the volume by using the speakerphone and no problem hearing.
About the other reviewers who dump on Sprint... Hello... this phone is digital and can work on ANY SYSTEM that has digital chip (GSM?). All the cellphone co's are switching.
I'm on T-Mobile (VoiceStream) but ATT has it also now. Others will follow. Might need to be unlocked to switch.
The battery lasts a couple days if you don't do much talking. Too bad the battery is not easily swapped. Keep it charged! The cradle does both, synchronize and charge it.
The phone in conjunction with the digital cellular system has an amazing array of features. My favorite is that when an incoming call has caller ID, it finds that phone number ANYWHERE in the Phonebook in the PDA! It doesn't just look at the "speed dial" list of ph. numbers. The speed dial system is also really nice. 5 pages of 10 numbers each. It doesn't have "turbo dial" where you press one keyboard button and hold it to dial, oh well. You can dial out any phone number in the entire phone book by tapping on it.
Overall I love this phone/pda and recommend it highly unless you're a lifeguard and spend all day in the bright sunlight. I bought mine on ebay slightly used (mint) and then signed up with Tmobile and got a rebate, and sold the "free phone" they gave me to sign up (on ebay) and ended up paying $45 when all was said and done.
If you want a compact cellphone and PDA in one, this is a great choice. I looked at the 600 and it was bigger and not flip so I went with the 270 and I'm glad I did. I've had no trouble with it at all except very rarely I do have to do a reboot with the pin in the hole trick but memory was intact.
It's great/convenient that the Mute button is easy to reach on top of phone, no need to go into menu's... but... it's also too easy to flip the switch by accident and then you're on mute and you don't know it.
