Let me state upfront: I use my PDA as primarily 3 things:
- address book
- calendar (reminder) system
- task (to-do) list
Note that this is how a 'traditional' "planner" is used.
As a result, I plug it in (to the cradle) daily, thus it stays almost always charged-up.
The greyscale Palm worked just-fine, that is until the screen broke. I would've replaced it with the low-end Palm, except the e335 was on-sale early-May'03 for $108 ($238@amazon, minus $100 amazon-reb, minus $30 toshiba-reb); for that kind of price, I went for the e335!!
The battery issue, is serious but not too critical for me: why? All my data is backed-up on my Windows-desktop Outlook; so I can recover by recharging and synchronizing (at the cost of temporary loss of my PDA). Future workaround: buy a memory Secure Digital card which saves all data on the non-volatile memory. Price of a 256MB SD card: $52@amazon.
However, if you constantly tool-on your PDA, taking notes or playing games, the battery life can be a serious handicap. For me: not a problem, YMMV.
First thing I did was turn off the voice-record button, as I read elsewhere it was an easy way to (accidentally) drain the battery.
Overall, I like the Microsoft integration, as it really does feel more of a consistent interface from my desktop to the PDA (not too surprisingly, being both M products). The color screen is much easier on my eyes too!
So I'm not a power-PDA user, so the e335 more than fufill my needs!
