elgatolocorojo's Full Review: Proview PL713S 17 inch LCD Monitor
I am renting a computer until my tax return comes in- and hubby rented a HP Pavilion s7320n Slimline PC and it came with this monitor from the RAC we used.
They tried to say this is actually a Sony monitor- but so far I've found nothing on the monitor or in the paperwork to suggest that it is. They also tried to say that this montor came with the computer- I guess the morons at Rent A Center don't realize that some of the folks that come in do have more than half a brain and can do a little research on the net (LIKE AT EPINIONS) to do a little checking. (BTW- I've only had to pay $2.45 for the rental of this thing up until Feb 4th, should have my tax return before then- am glad from at least the monitor stand-point that I'm not renting it for $40 a week!!!)
Hubby actually set the entire system up on his own so I don't know how "easy" it was to put together, though it went fairly quickly after he got our old machine taken down- and I would like to advise you not to buy this monitor at least.
We've had this thing for less than 12 hours and already a "pixel" I guess you call it, in the LCD display is out. What it looks likes is a green pinpoint shining through the display.
You can't see it that well on a white background, like this epinions page- but the AOL desktop I put on it is a bengal tiger strip pattern, and the dot is very noticable because a black strip is under it. Now that I know it's there, I can see it on the white background of a regular webpage, as well.
It's certainly very big at 17" and I guess retail wise you'll be paying for it- but I don't think that the colors are very "bright". The white seems sort of dingy, and the actual display looks really chunky. What I mean is that the text itself on the screen seems likes it's all made up of lots of little squares, not round or fluid. I don't think the display is as nice as my 10 year old hand me down Sony monitor that my husband screwed up one side of with a stapler. (he put a stapler on top of the monitor and left it there overnight- now it's got a big grey glob on the screen) I realy don't think that this monitor is putting out any nicer picture than that old beast.
And don't get me wrong, I like LCD, normally I think they are beautiful and many look as if you could just reach in and touch the picture like a science fictio nmovie- I just think for the lowest price Epinions reported at $250, that this monitor would not be worth your money. Again, glad I'm just renting it for a couple of bucks until Feb 4.
*** It's got a menu button, down and up (which is not for volume- this monitor does NOT have a speaker in it) and an auto adjusting button to I assume auto adjust itself! Also on/off. The menu button lets you change the language that the monitor menu appears in, the width, up and down stretch, something called OSD, and that sort of stuff.
Pretty basic stuff....
