The Bottom Line: Highly recommended - a solid performer with good picture quality and sound and great battery life able to play anything you throw at it.
philadams's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-LS50 7 in. Portable DVD Player
I've had this player for almost a year now. A real solid player with no major glitches.
CASE: Nice and solid. It's two-tone grey plastic and seems fairly strong. No signs of cracks, misalignment or wear so far. The screen folds down to cover the controls when closed.
CONTROLS: Easy to use - the remote has more controls than on the player itself, so don't lose it. Also, the remote controls are easier to push and in a more logical position for experienced remote users.
DVD: I have a lot of DVDs and they all play well. No problems with any. I've also recorded a lot of DVDs on my Sony recorder and my computer DVD player in both plus and minus 'R' formats. All play with no hiccups or glitches.
The manual says it will play any type of DVDs including CDs and MP3's. I would believe this.
SCREEN: A large screen with lots of room to adjust. This is one reason I bought this player. You can lean/tilt the screen back or forward - probably close to 270 degrees of swivel.
I also like how the plastic around the screen is black so no glare or distraction when watching a movie.
However, the picture is a little grainy. If you change the picture to any mode other than standard mode, it becomes very evident. Also, the screen can be viewed side to side fairly well but you can't be below or above the screen or the picture either blacks out or washes out.
BATTERY LIFE: Excellent battery life. They take several hours to charge or you can watch while they are charging. Battery life is about 5 to 6 hours. I can easily watch two full length movies and usually start a third - no sweat.
SOUND: Fairly good - in a quiet room it is easy to hear. With people talking or a little bit of background noise you have to turn it up fairly loud. You can hear it in a car while it is in motion, but the volume must be at or almost at the peak level. Fortunately, there is no sound distortion at peak levels.
For the best sound quality, I prefer using earphones.
Overall, a good looking player with great features. It's comfortable for watching movies while flying or driving or in a room with no tv or even out on the back patio.
