l3it3r's Full Review: Panasonic Palmcorder® PV-GS120 Mini DV Camcor...
I am a videographer, and I make dvds. So I need to have the best cameras that I can get my hands on. When I was looking to get a small camcorder size camera that I wouldn't be too upset about breaking or losing, I bought the PV GS120. I read that reviews saying that the stabilization of the video was poor and that the shots could look a little grainy. I have come to a professional conclusion on this camera and I thought I would share it.
As for the quality of the picture, this is the thing that impresses me the most about this camera. Nothing escapes it during the day, color is transferred perfectly. however, the night time recording is lacking, and the 'night shutter' is nothing more than a long exposure setting, which granted, makes for some interesting static shots at night.
The Stability of the picture is the thing that I found to be the biggest difference from my experience to the reviews. I've never used digital Zoom, so I automatically turned it off, and while I was covering a drifting event in washington dc, I was tracking cars moving around a track in excess of 80-100MPH and I never had any stability problems. My reccomendation to those that do have them: don't use the handstrap.. that's just a place to hold the camera when it's not in use ;)
As for the Grainy shots, Again, DIGITAL zoom. Turn it off. It's useless anyway, only thing that you should worry about when Buying a camcorder is the OPTICAL zoom. I also use a wideangle lens on the camera and that improves the field of view that I read one consumer complaining about. All in all, this is the best 'mini' camcorder I have ever used, and I'm infact looking to get another one for my next dvd so I can have a few more cameras on cars as they go around the tracks.
