| madmouse's Full Review: Panasonic Palmcorder® PV-GS15 Mini DV Camcord... |
This review only comes after a couple of days of use with this camcorder. I will update this review after a month of shooting. The GS15 low light is pretty grainy, but I haven't played with the manual features enough yet to see if I could improve on the video. Forget about using the
MagicPix,it's totally worthless, even with a tripod
the video is extremely jerky and grainy.
After only shooting about 2 hours worth of video with the GS15 I'm happy with it and I'll keep it. Playback on the TV was excellent if a little soft. The colors were very true an defined. I shot the video under auto. I believe if I had set the white balance manually the video
would have been even clearer.
The camcorder has a ton of manual controls to help improve the video. I had originally bought the JVC DR-G33U because of it's low price and supposedly superior low light capability. Took it back after a week because of the camcorder loosing focus on indoor shots. The GS15 holds the focus quicker and clearer.
It has Electronic Image Stabilization that is fine up until about 15-18X zoom then you need a real steady hand or a tripod.
Ergonomics: It fits great in my hand, the strap holds the camera pretty steady. Easy access to the controls. They use the LCD screen for changing any functions and the menus are pretty straight forward, easy to read and use.
Battery last about a little over an hour with LCD and viewfinder use. Get a spare and you should be fine for most situations. It has a separate Remote Control that is not found on many camcorders in this price range. Only quibble is there is no power on/off button(very minor).
I have a separate digital camcorder for my stills.
The quality of the stills from the GS15 are only good
for email. The GS120/GS200 supposedly give you better
quality stills, but nothing I've seen would compare to
a separate digital cam.I wanted a decent quality
camcorder for under 500 bucks and this one fits me
perfectly.
