| king_sal's Full Review: Panasonic SL-SV550 Personal CD Player |
If you have been reading my reviews you know I am into music. The new Panasonic SL-SV550 is not one of the most feature-packed expensive players but rather it is an affordable alternative. This player truly does make you want to dance to the music. The quality is great and the look is stunning. It looks and acts like it is more expensive than it really is. If you want to listen to great music anywhere and anytime go with this one. Panasonic is a trusted and recognized name in electronics that is synonymous with quality.
Let me enlighten you on what it can do. It can play your regular audio CDs (WMA) and MP3 files without displaying the MP3 tag information. It is not the best player is you have a lot of MP3 because it tends to skip. It also comes with an AM/FM tuner. I have found these features to work just splendidly and they are easy to use. Did I mention that you can preset station on the AM/FM tuner? It comes with headphones but I don't like them as much. The sound quality is great but the volume doesn't go up a lot. This needs to changed and it would be great if the next model's volume could be turned up even higher. It uses two AA batteries (the regular ones) which can last for a long time. I am so happy to discover that radio presets (all 30 of them) are not erased when changing batteries. It is extremely portable and weighs only a few ounces. It can be taken anywhere so you can listen to your favorite CD, MP3, or radio station anywhere. The buttons on this player are all laid out in a semicircle. This is not as good as it sounds. You can get the buttons mixed up and it would have been better if they had some other arrangement for them. Moreover, the buttons do add to the sleek style of the player. The overall design is great and look very high-tech and the color is very cool. You'll just look so amazing listening to this musical masterpiece. There isn't really a big downside to this player for the price.
It is about time to comparison shop. I looked at almost all of the other players in this price range. I have to say that this finishes better than some more expensive ones. What really sets it apart is the AM/FM tuner. You can find some player with an FM tuner but an AM tuner is hard to come by. I suggest you compare this player to all on the "Epinions Top 10" and judge for yourself. The material it is made of is plastic but not the really good kind. It is durable but only to an extent. I dropped this from a flight of stairs (don't ask) and it still works. The plastic wasn't damaged at all so the quality is impressive. One last thing I noticed was that I liked the outward appearance of this one more than I did those of some more expensive models. The silver and blue colors are a definite hit with the teenage and young adult crowd. The little LCD screen nicely displays what station you are listening to or track information with audio CDs. It doesn't display the information for an MP3 file.
The Royal Verdict:
This new Panasonic is an amazing value. It gives you more bang for the buck than any other player on the market. The overall quality is spectacular. It is very dependable and mobile so forget your worries. Its futuristic and high-tech looks are sure to boggle the eye and the sound will entertain your ears. There was only one downside to this player-- the volume level not being high enough issue. However, that is a minor issue for most people. I recommend that you get off that computer and head to your local retail store to pick up this contender. And at around $60 it won't be heavy on the wallet. If you are short on cash try the version without the AM/FM tuner for about $10 less. That's all folks.
