| biyoushi's Full Review: Panasonic Palmcorder® VDR-M30 DVD Camcorder |
If you trust what the previous reviewer has said then Panasonic should take note. However, my experience of the same camera during my last 2 months use has been very different.
I bought the VDR-M30 as the first Video Recorder I have owned. I have used a few, but never had one of my own. When I opened the box it contained 5 Manuals of various languages, but not one of English. After playing around with the recorder I had basically mastered the operation and navigation systems as they are very easy to understand and well laid out. I contacted Panasonic via the website and received links to English Manuals within 24 hours.
The software I had installed on my previous W98SE system, was slow and awkward. I updated to a faster processor 1Ghz+ and Windows XP, the Panasonic Drivers enclosed with the camera do not support XP. I then went onto Panasonic UK website and downloaded the relevant drivers for XP, installed them and am using them now with no problem's either finding them or any other problems.
I installed the video editing software contained within the bundle, and to be frank, it is useless! You DO NEED the DVD Drivers to get the MPG's down to your PC and Camera Drivers to get the still's. I uninstalled the software and went out to buy new software, more capable of doing the job I wanted, a lot quicker.
The Camera quality is pretty useless; my Mobile Phone Camera is better; but if you want good pictures buy a camera! The video quality is very good, the sound is very good, infra-red focusing would be a bonus in low light but it does work pretty well. The 240x zoom is very good (but not for stills!!!)
Bang for buck - it is a very capable little recorder which is light and easy to use. It is very user friendly with most of the buttons in the right place and reliable. I considered the Sony models of equivalent kind of extra's and they were far more expensive. I have lots of Sony products by the way! But I felt for my needs and budget the Panasonic fit my purposes best.
