Pros: Exceptional Mid range sound
Cons: Not very sharp
The Bottom Line: I have now compared them to one of the best rated speakers out there (soundtube RS 90) and they are still exceptional.

| RONinPC's Full Review: Paradigm Phantom Speaker |
About 5 years ago, I saw paradigms speakers at an Audio store. I was impressed by the fullness of their sound, especially for the money.
Since then, I have used them frequently at a range of volume for everything from dinner parties to yard work with no real complaints. They are part of a component system including Polk speakers for Channel "B" driven by a Yamaha reciever. Baby Advents for my surround speakers.
Well, two days ago I won a pair of Soundtube RS90 commercial speakers. I plugged them in, expecting a huge difference, and in fact, there was one.
My Paradigms lack the sharp highs of the Soundtubes. However, when I compared the two speakers overall, with a variety of music, this is what I found.
1. Better Bass Response. Funny, considering that the Soundtube was made for Bass.
2. 100% more midrange... I could not believe it, but when I turned off the Paradigm speakers, it was as though I had turned "midrange" to -10.
3. 100% less tweater. Not a selling point, and in fact the soundtube speakers make guitar music sound as though it is live and right next to you, I have a problem with overly "bright" or "sharp" speakers. The Paradigm errs the other way.
4. They are "old". Hey, I have used these speakers a lot, and they still deliver performance without compromise.
So here is what I have to say: My Paradigm Phantom speakers are better than anything I have compared them to of late (even Bose, which also lacks Midrange). They lack high notes, but are so full sounding that they are complimented by a set of Polk Bookshelf speakers for their high range quality. They last, and are very affordable.
Oh, the boxes are sort of chintzy looking.
