| tlbenn2000's Full Review: Paradigm Titan Main / Stereo Speaker |
I was putting together my home theater system when my focus turned to speakers. I had a pair of Velodyne LD-1’s that I purchased a few years back and was planning to purchase another set to act as my “rear” speakers. After learning they were no longer being made I began to search for something small and not too pricey to be my second set of speakers. I read so many positive reviews about the Paradigm Atoms that figured they would be more than sufficient. When I walked in to the store to have a listen that quickly changed. While the Atoms would have served that purpose pretty well, but for just a few bucks more I could purchase the Titans. And there is a HUGE difference for the $20. Now I am not an audiophile, don’t pretend to be one, but I do know what I hear, and what I paid. When people talk about them being “Bright” they really aren’t kidding. The mid-range and highs come across clear and clean, and the low frequencies don’t come across as muddy or muddled. And not to be overlooked, when you crank these puppies up (when the wife and baby are not home that is) the sound is awesome.
By way of comparison I was out and about and listening to dozens of speakers, the only serious competitors in their price range were the NHT Sub Zeros. To me they were pretty close in sound quality, but they were asking over a hundred dollars more for the NHT’s. There was no way in my mind that the sound justified the price difference. The long and short of my story is that instead of purchasing these speakers for my home theater rears they took over the spot as the main speakers, and my system never sounded better. My only complaint is now I have to buy a second pair, because if my system sounds this good with one pair, how good will it be with two?
Anyway, if your looking for a reasonably priced solid speaker for your home, and don’t desire to spend huge money for large speakers that will take over your room, do yourself a favor and give the Paradigm Titans a listen. Your ear’s will be happy you did and so will your wallet (for the record I paid $218 for the pair.)
