| viperxt's Full Review: Paradigm Titan Main / Stereo Speaker |
I bought these speakers because of advice given to me at www.hometheaterforum.com and the fact that living in Canada is great if you like Paradigm(the prices are low). Other speakers I was considering were: JBL N26
JBL S26
Technics Bookshelves
Paradigm Atoms
Axiom M2
The JBLs sounded good but I ruled them out because of their overly bright sound. The Technics were good but just didn't sound as nice as the Titans. The Axioms had better midrange but weak bass. The Atoms were great except for the bass was slightly lacking. This left me with the Titans.
When I unpacked them at home I noticed they were quite hefty for such a small speaker. Upon hooking them up I was impressed by the big sound the speakers put out. The mids were a little harsh but they seem to be getting better as I use them. The sound these speakers put out is simply amazing.
The speaker is a two-way bookshelf speaker. It has a 6.5 poly-propylene mid range/woofer and a 3/4 inch ceramic metal dome tweeter. The speaker is 33cm high, 19.7 cm wide and 27.3 cm deep. The frequency response is rated as 60hz-20khz(+/-2dB)and reaches 50 hz at -3dB in most rooms. It has a max input of 60 watts but it suitable for use with a 100 watt amp.
The sound is great! The treble is clear and bright but without being as fatiguing as the JBL Northridge and Studio series speakers. The bass is excellent without the help of a sub, although it can get a little boomy when placed closed to a wall. It doesn't extend very low but it has tight punchy upper and mid-bass. The midrange lacks a little bit of clarity but is still good for this price range.
These are excellent speakers for stereo or hometheater use.
