Until about a year ago, I was a Bose disciple. Everything we owned was Bose, both in my home and in my car, and we truly thought that Bose was one of best systems we'd ever heard.
This, however, was before we'd heard the Paradigm Titan speakers. We sold our old house last year, and as part of the contract, left the Bose Acoustimass system in place. While building our new house, we just assumed that we'd purchase another Bose system to install there. We walked into one of our local custom audio stores, just to see what they had, and explained to the salesperson that we were looking for a home theater speaker setup. We mentioned Bose, and after telling us he had something we'd like much better, he guided us over to the Paradigm Titans.
We were blown away! The sound on the speakers is phenomenal for their size, and even without the subwoofer, music comes through clearly and well-balanced with plenty of rich undertones. Adding the subwoofer only makes a great thing that much better. And that's one of the things that impressed us about the system: you can purchase it in "stages" without suffering serious performance problems. We purchased the four corner speakers, recently added a center channel speaker, and will be completing our system with the subwoofer in the spring. We've been so impressed that we're now looking for Paradigm's outdoor speakers as well.
Comparing the Acoustimass system with the Titans, I will admit that the Titans are larger than the Acoustimass speakers. However, when we mounted the speakers, they blended right into the wall and hardly anyone notices them now.
The price was fairly comparable to the Acoustimass 12 system also; the only thing that would've made a difference in the price is if the Bose system was purchased through Sam's Club, where Bose products are carried. However, in purchasing through a custom audio store, we did get better support and service than we would've through Sam's.
