| bluedot-79's Full Review: Parenting Concepts SlingEZee Baby Sling/Wrap |
My first daughter was a sleeper. She ate, and then promptly fell asleep. My second...well, not so much.
Having a newborn and a toddler can be tricky. Especially if said newborn wants to be held all day long. I mean, first off you have LOADS upon LOADS of laundry with a new baby, and you've got a toddler who actually expects you to feed her, not to mention toys scattered everywhere! How do you do it all without a third arm??
That's where the SlingEZee worked wonders for me! This sling comfortably allows you to "wear" your child (yes, I said comfortably!) while you still have TWO FREE HANDS! It's fantastic!
What you get:
The Sling.
Unlike similar slings, this is not just a piece of cloth with some D-rings that you wrap around yourself. This sling is sewn together with a rather large shoulder pad on the one end and a pull strap on the other. Just below the shoulder pad are two D-rings that you slip the pull strap into to form the sling. But, you don't really need to know how to do it, because it comes fully assembled. The sling itself has two pillow-like tubes along the sides. The instructions say that these help keep the baby comfortable and prevent the baby from falling out.
The Instructions:
Well, I don't even know if you can call these instructions. It's basically a small pamphlet that shows the various ways you can wear this sling. There are step-by-step instructions for about 5 ways to wear your sling...none of which are very clear to someone who is sleep deprived. (I mean, seriously, I just had a baby, people!) The help in this instruction book is minimal. But, after a few attempts, and a lot of practice, it became second nature.
NOTE: There is also a DVD instruction video which may or may not be available where you purchase this...but I was not willing to pay extra for this so I don't know if it's helpful or not.
My Experience
I used this sling with my second child. My oldest was 18 months when the new baby was born, so it was a task to keep both girls nearby. Shopping, especially, was difficult. But this sling made life a lot easier. My younger daughter could sleep, or even breastfeed without me skipping a beat.
Now, I don't think I can stress enough that there is a learning curve to this. Getting comfortable can take a few tries. And, it's very important to practice this because, after all, we're talking about the saftey of your new baby.
The bulky shoulder pad makes it more comfortable to use for long periods of time, but especially if it's summer time, can get very hot. And, you will certainly be able to tell that it uses muscles that you might not have used otherwise...the next day you'll likely be sore, especially if you don't start with a newborn. But, the ability to do two things at once, was worth it to me! And, after a few days, I was a pro at getting my daughter in and out without help!
Breastfeeding is something that you can do easily while wearing the sling. I would be able to do things like grocery shop or walk my older daughter in the stroller while the baby was feeding. The sling is large enough that there is no way other people would be able to tell. (Unless, of course, you were a little too close for comfort anyway.) This feature alone, makes the sling worth it in my opinion.
Overall
It's comfortable, simple, and makes life easy. Sure, it might make you warm, but I don't think that's a big enough reason not to love it.
