gtrantow's Full Review: Pentax DCF SP (10x43) Binocular
My search included Consumer Reports, epinions and many birding website reviews. The concensus is that Pentax makes high quality binos at a price point below the competition. While Nikon Monarchs are highly valued by many, some of these same reviewers were moving up to the Pentax DCF SP or the big three (Swarovski, Zeiss & Leica). I purchased the Pentax DCF SP 10x43 because I wanted a 10x for all day glassing while hunting. The cost of the big three was hard to justify in my mind. I own Zeiss Conquest 8x20 and Steiner Predator 8x30. The compact Zeiss works great for mountain hunting, but lack the low light ability of the Pentax. The Pentax image quality is equal to or better than the Zeiss and the extra magnification should be helpful for elk, deer and bear hunting during lower light conditions. The Steiners are great for sporting events, but their optics are a step below the Pentax DCF SP and Zeiss.
