agentcisco's Full Review: Pentax *ist DS Digital Camera
I started photographing with a Nikon 35mm pocket camera, then to a Canon A-1 Professional SLR. SLR is truely better than pocket cameras, when it comes to quality and depth of a picture. I'm not a professional photographer, but I do enjoy taking great pictures. I dove into digital cameras with a Nikon 4300. That was a nice piece. You can check out my review of the 4300. Then I bought a Nikon 5400, which was on sale. That was a great camera as well, but had some software glitches??
Anyways, my point is that when I dove into the digital SLR cameras, I realized I cannot go back to those cheap little toys for quality picture of my son. After weeks of research, I bought the Pentax ist DS kit. What a different a few hundred dollars makes. One thing I hated about all my digital cameras was slow shutter speed. Geee...a Kodak moment, too bad - missed it due to slow shutter. I realized I was taking less and less pictures of my baby since the slow shutter speed was so frustrating. But with the DS, wow - in bright light, there is practically no shutter lag. I get my shots. There is still some lag for night time shots or in dim light, but nothing thats worth spending another 700 bucks for a canon D20.
The pictures are great! Color, clarity, depth is really great. You CAN tell the difference from you compact cameras.
I was down to three cameras, well four including the Olympus SLR, which is too ugly and bulky to mention. So the Nikon D70, Canon XT, and the Pentax DS. Nikon, great camera and brand, too expensive and big. Canon XT, too cheap looking and feeling. Feels like a toy and makes noisies like something is lose. Pentax, felt right, looked right, price was right, and the professional reviews were great. So I bought one. No regrets.
