Pros: MP3 format
small in size.
download is easy and fast. Quality high.
Cons: sometimes it acts up. Just because it's mp3 format doesn't mean the files are small!
The Bottom Line: What good is a recorder if after your meeting it hasn't recorded anything? Shop around. Maybe this unit is an exception; save your receipts - or have a back-up.

| loralu's Full Review: Perception Digital FuXion Genie (128 MB) MP3 Playe... |
I spent a load of time researching for the right unit. Quality is very important as well as file format. I wanted something that could record at least an hour's worth of one on one conversation with excellent quality in a file format that I could save and use in the future and play on most any kind of unit. I am happy with everything with one exception which I'll address later.
The quality of sound is incredible, I think. It picks up everything well. Voices are clear. I even had it in a pocket with the microphone end toward the outside and it picked up my doctor's voice extremely well - it even picked up voices that were on the opposite side of my pocket 15 feet down the hall. Amazing despite the fact that the mic is as big as a pin hole practically.
It's easy to use. I will recommend to use mp3 format for music to record meetings and not the voice format which is NOT mp3 - I thought the sound quality was extremely better.
Downloading is a snap. Uses your Windows Explorer drag and drop - very simple.
I was a bit disappointed when I saw that the files were still fairly large despite recording in mp3 format. I guess I assumed if it was in mp3, that it would be smaller than, for example, wav. An hour long meeting is about 21 mb - this depends upon the bit rate you use.
I had previously bought the Olympus DW-10 which is a WAV format recorder with a camera - I needed something fast. Although I thought it recorded fine, the Fuxion quality is better.
My gripe about this unit is that twice now it has glitched out on me. I had hit record and then looked down while we were talking and the display was blank - as if it had turned itself off. Then I stood there wondering what do I do - do I assume it just went in to power save mode and leave it alone OR do I hit the "on" deal to see what's going on and risk loosing what I just recorded. Last week I lost an entire meeting - I went to turn it on and the file flashed and then went away on the display. Oh well. I guess I'll check on it during the meeting or read the directions to see if I'm doing something wrong. Perhaps it is my unit that is faulty.
For the price, I think it is slick and nice to have. Oh, not sure on battery life. I think I used it about 4 times, an hour each session plus download time before having to replace the battery.
