Pheromone Spray has 179 ingredients but pheromones isn't one of them!
Written: Aug 24 '05
Pros:Very long lasting, feminine, concentrated
Cons:Doesn't have real pheromones in it, very strong and very sweet scent
The Bottom Line: Pheromone doesn't have human pheromones in it. It's just a name, not an ingredient. A strong, floral, sweet fragrance that can be overbearing.
Pheromones have been a subject of a lot of press lately. The claims are that the body makes these hormones that send signals to the opposite sex causing them to feel aroused and attracted to you. The scent, which is much more prevalent in animals than in humans, is a natural aphrodisiac according to the websites pushing pheromone sprays and colognes.
I knew none of this when I bought Marilyn Miglin Pheromone 1.7 oz EDP spray. I saw a kit that contained the spray and some other products on a home shopping channel and bought it, much like I do everything, on a whim.
It was after I bought the fragrance that I learned what pheromones really are. I just got this because I thought it might smell feminine and pretty and the other items in the kit looked really nice.
Heres the thing about this spray that is called Pheromone. There are NO pheromones in it! It is just a name for a perfume. This is not to say the perfume is bad or that Marilyn Miglin is completely misleading people by naming her fragrance the same name as the sex hormone that is sold widely on the net and in adult toy stores. I just found it ironic that a perfume that calls itself Pheromone has none it in.
Having said that, lets move on to the review, shall we?
The Official Word
This is from www.hsn.com:
Pheromone is a sensual blend of 179 precious ingredients including flower essences, roots, wild grasses, exotic barks, rare wine resins and essential oils from France, Italy, Belgium, Madagascar, Portugal and Egypt. Pheromone also includes a delicate composition of ylang-ylang, fo-ti-tieng, aegyptuim, penny royal, iris, rosemary, sandalwood, attar of rose, patchouli, lotus palm and oak moss. These, carefully combined with other ingredients, blend harmoniously to make Pheromone the world's most precious perfume.
The Packaging
Because my bottle came bundled in a kit, it may be a bit different looking than ones you buy separately. Mine is in a simple clear glass bottle with a gold pull off cap. Mine did not come boxed. The cap pulls off to reveal a spray top. The fragrance itself is tea colored.
The Fragrance
All those 179 ingredients add up to one heck of a strong smelling fragrance, WOW! You need the tiniest amount of this and it lasts a long time.
To me, it smells vaguely like powder, flowers, and my mother in law. Its very ultra feminine and way too floral for me. My kids tell me I smell like an old lady but they dont realize I am an old lady.
Still, for me this just doesnt click. Actually, if I apply it in the morning, by nighttime, it has a light, soft sent that I dont mind. But when first applied, ohmygod, its strong. I cough, I sneeze, I wheeze.
This fragrance is a good one for those who like very feminine scents and who like strong florals and very sweet perfumes. Since I am a fan of light, fresh, clean types of scents, this one is opposite of everything I look for in a fragrance.
And, for the record, no men respond to me any differently when I am wearing this stuff than when I am not. It may be called Pheromone, but there are no pheromones in it and thus, even if pheromones truly did all they claim to do, this fragrance isnt one that you should buy if you are interested in trying a pheromone-based scent.
Buying Info
Marilyn Miglins products are sold on the Home Shopping Network or at www.hsn.com. I have seen this fragrance being sold on several fragrance websites as well. I have not seen it in brick and mortar stores but that could be because I never specifically looked for it. There are several accessory or add on products you can buy to layer with this fragrance but, honestly, its strong enough on its own and lasts a long time without any help. I dont know the cost of this product alone as I got it in a kit but it is not an outrageously expensive fragrance.
Conclusion
OK, so the name is a bit misleading but the hype never mentions actual pheromones being used in this fragrance so I cant call out Marilyn Miglin for false advertising.
This sweet, floral, feminine fragrance is ultra concentrated and smells a bit like an older womans fragrance. I cant imagine a 20 year old wearing it but I havent seen 20 in so long, what do I know?
If you like very feminine, romantic scents, this one may interest you. Just apply it a couple hours before you go out to let the overwhelming allergy inducing scent tone down and be less in your face.
I, personally, cant bear to wear it. I have it on now for this review and I taste it, its so strong. But it isnt a turn off like some powdery, rose scented perfumes I have sampled. Just too sweet and strong.
Its so hard to rate fragrances because one persons signature scent is someone elses gag inducing one. For me, its just way too strong. But its a scent I think many women may actually like because it is so feminine. I am giving it three stars. Youll either love it or want to jump in the shower to get rid of the lingering sweetness of the fragrance.
And, to clarify, there are no human pheromones in this perfume. It is simply the name of the scent. You may illicit smiles and flirtations from men, but it wont be because there is a magic ingredient pulling them toward you. It could very well be because youre an attractive, approachable person or maybe they like the 179 ingredients in Pheromone.
