| bassoongod's Full Review: Philips 25PS50S 25 inch TV |
After the Samsung TV I bought when I was 8 died (when I was 20) I decided I needed to size up for the 19" I was used to. I went shopping around and ended up at Circuit City. I only go there when I am frustrated with the rest because I really don't like the store, but can usually find a deal if all else fails. I did find a deal! There was an amazing sale going on at the time and I got my TV for $50 less than I should have.
What can I say about this fine piece of work? The screen is really nice. It isn't standard and it isn't theater. It is that size you can find on certain DVDs that is in between the two general settings. By this I mean it is a little longer than it should be which helps cut out distortion and makes it so you don't waste as much screen as you would on the rare occasion that you only have letterbox available to you.
The screen properties are the most adjustable of any television I have yet come across, and there are many preset options as well as a custom one. The audio is the same, and it is surprising what a difference it makes changing it from talk to music to the other options based on what you are watching. But is that really surprising? Philips is known for its audio properties!
The remote is really cool too... I don't have a lot of other gadgets so I am one of the few people who actually use the remote that comes with the television, and I don't think I would be satisfied with anything else. Why? There are category buttons. The television is programmed to accept four lists of ten stations. I have mine set to be: "news/weather/history", "network broadcast stations", "cable network channels", and "music/arts/science". This makes viewing very very easy indeed! Moreover, this is the single easiest set up remote for full darkness use, and I rarely watch TV with the lights on.
My only problem is that the R/F knob fell into the unit... not all the way, but it makes connecting and disconnecting the cable much more difficult! Once you get it in, don't move it!! But, since that is a rare necessity, and the A/V plugs are easy to use (and I do move my PS2 in and out of my house), it makes up for it, I suppose. Oh!, and the A/V plugs are on the side! How convenient!
This TV is great, the picture is top of the line, and I can't say enough about the audio! (especially since I don't have a system to support it).
This is a cheap TV that renders high-end results!
