Pros: Vivid color, great HD / DVD picture quality, wide viewing angle with little glare
Cons: Did not start up initially, menu is too basic, vertical bands
The Bottom Line: Though it may not sound like it, I'm very happy with this set. After some tweaking (I'm a perfectionist) the picture is perfect minus the faint vertical lines.

Honestly I bought this set over a similar (but smaller) Sony since it was slight larger and perfectly fit into our cabinet (I later did more and more research on HDTV's). With it came some issues:
It did not start up when we initially brought it home. It turns out there was a problem with the mother board. So we ordered a new one, only to wait for 3 weeks and have it arrived damaged. So we then order another motherboard and the TV was finally fixed after 2 months of sitting in the guest bedroom.
At that point I was overall happy with the picture especially on our DVD feed. Looked very good. A few months later we added HDTV and that looked great.
But then something bad happened....I noticed some faint, vertical lines that ran in front of the image. While these were only really noticeable during certain scenes that panned across with a light background.....I began to get more and more annoyed with the issue. I have since adjusted the TV's brightness and picture settings numerous time in order to minimize the effect of these faint 'vertical bands'. Although I'm a perfectionist, I had thought I was ok with the issue until I bought the XBox 360. Once I played the soccer game, I realized just how badly these lines stuck out. It actually distracted me from the game I was playing.
So just recently I have called the Philips Customer Care center many, many times. I finally got them the serial number, model number and made them understand the issue. I then contacted the local repair center and for the first time during all of these phone calls, someone was able to confirm that this is a known issue with this model. And in fact there is now a 'jail bar' fix/part available. The part has been ordered and is covered under warranty at this point. He indicated that it was not a problem with the actual video circuitry, it has something to do with a poor connection between the video and inputs....interference of some kind. The part is supposed to completely resolve this issue.
I'll come back and post my results.
