| aban123's Full Review: Philips 50PF9956 50 in. HDTV-Ready TV |
I was looking for a HDTV TV quite a long time. Read numerous reviews about variety technologies and their corresponding pros and cons. Then purchased a Sony 55 inch Grand Wega LCD projection TV from Best Buy. In store it looked awesome in full HD content. But then at home we started facing problem with SD sources like from our standard Direct TV satellite box. The TV was showing lot of pixelation and noise with flat content. Also it has serious Black level (while balance) problem. So we decide to return it and go for some thing better. So we visited Best Buy again in the mind of buying Panasonic or Sony Plasma.
We saw Philips 50 inch Plasma 50PF9956 and we can not believe our eyes; the picture is so crisp and smooth. Earlier we have decided to go for Panasonic Plasma because of its black level, but then seeing this TV we just changed our mind. The picture quality is just awesome and much better than any other brands including Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer. Visit Best Buy to have a look of this baby.
So now we proudly own one in our living room. Even the regular TV content via S video cable looks crisp and HD like due to it Digital Crystal Clear technology. Also this Plasma TV acts as a computer monitor via BNC cable. All you have to buy a simple VGA to BNC (5) RGBVH cable to hook up your computer to it.
Currently I have Onkyo TX-DS787 receiver with Denon 2910 DVD player. The DVD picture just looks like theater on this TV via Monster component cable. I am waiting to get a Satellite HD receiver soon from Dish Network. I am quite certain that I am going to be surprised again.
Also in case you have a surround sound receiver, you can use this TVs speaker as a center speaker. So you really dont have to mount center speaker at all. Philips has given a lot of thoughts while designing this TV.
N.B. In care you are in the market for HDTV, dont get lured by the Internet shops. I understand these shops are equally good but unless you can experience the TV at your own place, it is very difficult to decide one just by reading the reviews online or offline. All you end up paying bunch of shipping costs. So go to your local audio/video store and see them face to face before ordering one.
FYI: Currently Best Buy is offering a $500 mail-in-rebate on this model.
