This is the second Philips DVD player I have owned, and I have been pleased with both players. I have previously owned an APEX and a Toshiba. It has played everything I have put in it including DIVX, VCD, SVCD, DVD- R, DVD RW. I like the feature 1.5X zoom as I still have the standard TV, and it allows the wide screen formated movies to better fill the screen whereas the 2X zoom as found with many DVD players, zooms in too much. Using S-Video connection, the picture seems flawless. Since time does not permit me to watch an entire movie in one sitting, the resume feature is one of the main reasons form my selection of this unit. If you watch half of the movie, remove the disk, they kids watch something else, you can come back and pick up where you left off simply by hitting the ON button then PLAY while the disk is loading. One can use the feature as long as there have been no more than 4 additional DVD's have been played by the time you want to resume. I have had instances where the feature did not work and I am certain there were no other DVD's that were played, but it has worked 90% of the time. The ON/OFF switch goes to STANDBY mode instead of completely off, although the unit is off. Not a problem really, just a personal preference. I have several DVD's where the unit for some reason defaults to subtitles, even though I have the the pre-set on SUBTITLES OFF, and also defaults to the directors comments on audio instead of DOLBY 5.1. This it not that big of a deal, except my young boys haven't remembered to push the subtitle button on the remote and the audio button. This happens on maybe 1 out of every 15 DVD's played.
Overall, I am very pleased so far with the player.
