| isillyducki's Full Review: Philips KEY006 (128 MB) MP3 Player |
When I got my Philips Key 006 I was stunned at how small it was even though I had read the specifications and seen pictures, holding it in my hand I couldn't believe the size. And for it's small size it packs a mighty punch!
The Pros.
It's stylishly sleek and convenient. With 128MB of space I can fit about 30 mp3s, about two cds worth of songs on it. The quality of the music is the same as the quality of your MP3 or WMA file, so if your MP3/WMA file sounds just like a CD then that's what it will sound like from the player. The battery, which plays for approximately 4 hours worth of WMA files or 2 hours of MP3s, is amazingly easy to charge, you stick it in your computer's USB hub and tada! The same goes for transferring songs. With no programs to install it is amazingly quick to set up. You can use Windows Explorer or File Manager to drag and drop your files. If 2-4 hours of playback is not enough, a detachable battery housing comes with the player. The 006 is also magnesium cased, which means you won't be getting any unexpected scratches.
The mp3 player is not limited to only songs however. It doubles as 89 floppy disks, which means you can drag and drop pictures, documents, slideshows etc. onto it quickly and conveniently and slip it in your pocket and go. I've used this to hold mp3's and at the same time word documents. I can use it on any computer with a USB hub because I don't have to install any hardware!
The controls, located on the neck strap, are extremely fun and easy to use. The headphones provide crisp and powerful sound. I can sit in class and listen to the MP3 player without anyone noticing at all! It's that discreet.
The Cons.
There is no LCD screen, so it is difficult to locate songs. There is also no fast forward or rewind control, which is sometimes irritating. You also have to always keep the neck strap connected to the MP3 player if you want to listen to music, or else you will have no way of controlling it since the play, next, and previous buttons, and headphone jack are on the neck strap.
For me the pros heavily outweighed the cons, and the player provides everything I need from it. Quick and easy file transferring, small and discreet player, great sound, and it doubles as 89 floppy disks with it's 128 mb of space!
