Pros: Looks nice, speakers sound good
Cons: CD player is total crap, does not shuffle between discs
The Bottom Line: CRAPOLA. Pretty looking crapola, but crapola nontheless.

| funfers's Full Review: Philips MCM530 CD Shelf System |
Um, hello, what happened to technology in the last 15 years? I bought a shelf stereo system in 1991 that ran smoother, faster and quieter, and was way more responsive and durable than this p.o.s. I thought, hey, maybe I can get used to the grinding, crunching, and scratching sound (that in the past would have indicated, even to a novice user, something is seriously wrong here) whenever you load or unload or select a cd for play, as well as the SLOWWWWW response time while it is grinding away, thinking about even opening the tray. But then when it crapped out after playing a few cds and decided to start jumping and skipping, I decided it was time to take it back. I tried the same cd on three other sources with no problems, so am sure it was the player.
I agree with the other one star rater of this product...what the hell is the point of having shuffle when you can only shuffle and listen to one disc at a time? Ooooooo, one disc, but the songs are now in a different order, how exciting! It feels like it was designed by a controlling parent. Just one disc at a time young lady. BORING! For that matter what is the point in even having five discs, when you could listen to five discs faster in a single disc player that isn't going to torture you with interminable delays and protests every time you press a button. ARGH!
I wanted to like this player, because it sure was a pain in the butt to have to box it back up and return it, but it's a dog, primarily because of the CHEAPASS cd player.
The bright orange lighting on parts of it is also annoying. If I want to see that I'll go hang out in a construction site. They should have used more cool hues, like the pleasant blue color in the main panel.
I will give it this: It was cool how the set-up would automatically scan and program radio stations when you first turn it on.
Too bad everyone over at Philips was doing there job that day, except for the cheap bum who decided to put a crappy, cheap cd sorter into an other wise good system. Way to save a buck. I wouldn't be surprised if the returns on this product sink whatever measly additional profit was gained by using cheap parts and trying to pull one over on the consumer.
