Pros:Smart Sound and Smart Picture make it worth the buy.
Cons:Non-cable users may have trouble with broadcast channel picture quality.
The Bottom Line: If you're tired of loud commercials and you have cable, this set is a good buy. Dish users may want to keep looking.

I love Magnavox's Smart Sound and Smart Picture features. Smart Sound truly reduces the loudness of commercials. That alone makes it worth buying any Smart Sound television, in my opinion. And I'm constantly adjusting brightness and color on my other television. With Smart Picture you can just flip through the settings until you find the one that makes that channel or show come in best. Including your personal setting.

It is very easy to use the menu features, and channel surf is a nice feature. But the remote is too small and the channel and volume buttons are too small and in the wrong spot, in my estimation. But that's why they invented universal remotes.

But, this model Magnavox is not perfect. My Sanyo picked up all the locally broadcast channels with no problem when it was hooked up to the satellite cable, which was combined with an aerial antenna signal. But the Magnavox did not. I am not really sure why. But 'ER' went from clear to fuzzy and that bummed my girlfriend out.

This Magnavox needs a good wire hookup to get a picture. The picture quality is very good when it has a strong signal. But if you have a dish and not cable, you may have a problem getting decent broadcast picture reception. Oh, and for some reason they put the cable hookup dealie (not too technical is it?) in a rather deep hole on the back of the TV. So it's a real pain to screw on the end of the wire. I'd suggest a push-on wire instead.

It's not unusual to sink the connector like that, but this one is so deep it makes hookup a pain. But most people will only have to do this once in a great while I suppose. It's a minor annoyance unless you move the TV around a lot, or change the hookup often.

So, it does get a nice, clear and colorful picture. But if you don't have cable I would go with another set possibly. Maybe a Sanyo?
