I bought this philips universal remote control after my rca remote control broke. I have owned mutiple remote controls from most companies now and this one is my favorite so far.
I purchased the tv remote control in a 2 pack for $20. It came with the philips PM4S and the PM 435S. Before i set up one of the remote controls i tried how it felt. I decided to use the PM4S because it was easier to use and had all the buttons located like i am used to.
Setup for this tv remote control is very easy. Simply find your tv code in the instructions then press code scan and enter the numbers. They list sony, ge, zenith, toshiba, magnovox, panasonic, rca and almost any tv remote control codes you would ever need.
The PM4S is smaller in size than the PM435S and only controls your tv, vcr, cable and dvd player. That was all i needed for the tv i bought it for. I was suprised that every function on my tv worked after i set up the remote. Most universal remotes i used before did not work on some functions.
The remote works great and has good range. The batteries seem to last longer then the last remote I had. It takes 2 AAA batteries and I use rechargeable nicad batteries.
The layout of the buttons is very simple. Power is on top right with 3 buttons below that control tv, vcr and cable. Below that are the volume and channel buttons surounding the mute button.
The tv remote control has menu and info buttons below channel buttons. They have sleep, code search, subtitle and prev channel next and then numbers to change channels. The buttons to control vcr are located on bottom of the remote.
The only 2 things i could see wrong with the remote control is no lights in buttons. They do not glow or light up. The other problem is when you change batteries you have to press code and enter the number again for your tv. It does not remember the tv remote codes. I just put a piece of tape with the numbers on the back of the panel for the batteries. That way i have them when i change batteries. I realized after changing batteries a few times that code does stay on remote control for a few minutes. If you have batteries ready and just change them it the tv remote control should not need to be programed again.
I would recommend this tv remote to anyone who needs one remote to run tv, vcr and dvd. It seems to work with any tv, dvd or vcr. I tried it on my sanyo tv and it worked fine. I would buy this remote again and not think twice about it. It works great for a cheap remote control for tvs.
