| bozo_z_clown's Full Review: AT&T 2462 2.4 GHz 2-Line Corded / Cordless Phone |
I needed a cordless phone with 2 lines that could be expanded. The corded base was a bonus as I am a little concerned that a cordless handset will be dead just when I need it. The AT&T 2462 seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
My first inkling that this wasn't to be a keeper was when I used the corded handset - the audio quality sounds like it's cordless! The cordless handset was proportionately worse. Hums and crackles are not what I expect to hear on a corded handset. After six months the cordless handset's battery seems to be shot but it may be that the charging cradle only works some of the time. The range of the cordless handset is average at best.
The user interface of the phone seems to have been designed by people who've never actually used a 2-line phone. For instance, you have to choose the line you want *before* you pick up the handset! You also have to choose a speed dial number before you lift the handset, this makes dialing a memory number on line 2 something that's almost impossible to get right first time. Other smaller issues make the phone just plain annoying in everyday use: the display shows nothing useful during a call (not a call timer, a clock or the number dialed), the backlighting turns off during a call (which I guess is no loss), calls are muted during speed dials so you can't hear if an automated call to voicemail has gone awry. There is almost no integration between the caller ID and the number memory. The list goes on.
Needless to say, the expandability of this phone is not something I will be taking advantage of.
