Written: Aug 10 '03 (Updated Apr 11 '05)
Pros:900 megaherts, caller ID, great reception, nice size
Cons:none.
The Bottom Line: THIS IS A NO-PROBLEM PHONE. =) EVERYONES DREAM PHONE!

I've been out way too much to write reviews but since it is a rainy day, I figure I'd write one. I looked around my house and was like, "Hey, I can write on this phone, haven't attacked this one yet." So here I am writing about the GE 26938GE1 Cordless Phone.

When we got Caller ID we had to change all of our cordless phones. We went to Target and saw this phone for $25.00. We already had a Caller I.D phone with an answering machine, so we just needed another cordless phone.

Packaging
The phone,base, and wires were neatly wrapped in bubble wrap. They also had a little booklet about how to program numbers.

Features

* 900 megahertz
* 10 number memory and digital security
* caller ID
* Crystal Clear Sound®(this reduces the background noise)
* Blacklight (very important!)

The Base

The base is white. It is a pretty small base. I guess this is because it doesn't have an answering machine attached to it. There is a little light that shows when it is charging and a page button where you would put the phone to charge.
The phone stands vertically on the base, not horizontally.

The Phone

The phone is white with blue buttons. The phone is about six inches long and about an inch and a half wide. There is an integrated antenna. The keypad on the phone is very sexy. The buttons are big enough for big fingers to dial. Above the keypad are the buttons Redial, Memory, and Format. Above those buttons are a left arrow, TALK, and right arrow. Below the keypad is Delete - Channel , Ringer (on or off) , and Program - Flash. On the right side of the phone there is the headset inlet. The caller ID display is at the top of the phone. There is blacklight. This is very important to me because in the dark I don't like running to go turn the light on like this phone. On the caller ID display it shows the name, number, date, time, and call number.

What I think

The phone feels great in my hands. It isn't heavy and the keypad buttons are a decent size. They are also blue and that's my favorite color. (I had to add that.)

just a note...

I never use memory. I don't see a need for it. But just for you, my dad showed me how to use the memory since I couldn't find the box and booklet. DEFINITELY DON'T THROW IT OUT. BIG MISTAKE. =( But anyway, after we both figured it out. It was easy to store names on memory. Why would you need memory when you have caller ID. In my house, the caller ID never gets erased so I guess that's why it's never used.

back to the story...

I like the reception this phone has. When I get bored on a nice summer, spring, fall day I like to walk down the street and gab on the phone. This phone goes pretty far and it is extremely clear. I never really knew what this Crystal Clear Sound® thing was until I went to the GE website and it said it reduced background noice. Well thank you! We've had problems with other phones in the past where we could hear our neighbors conversations through our phone. This has yet to happen.

Many of you may be wondering where the volume settings are. This took me a little while to figure out. It is the right/left arrow keys next to the TALK button. Also, the TALK button is also the OFF button. If you have seperate buttons, such as the crappy Sony phone I reviewed, this may take a little getting used to.

For all you chore talkers, this phone is lightweight enough to cradle on your shoulder so you can use both hands to wash dishes and fold clothes.

Battery Life

Excellent. Usually we keep the phone on the charger when it isn't in use so we can easily find it and at night time when everyone is sleeping. We usually keep the ringer on and the volume high so just incase if we misplace it, we can page it. My mom was doing laundry in the laundry room and she put the phone in the laundry basket. It was buried under a stack of clothes. Until she did the white stack, the phone was MIA. That morning, she took the phone off the charger. When we found it on the 3nd day, it still worked, for about 45 minutes. I'd say the battery life is good. Mind you, I washed the phone. Dirty whites on my white phone. Yuck.

Is it drop proof?

I think this baby is bullet proof. Okay, I watched S.W.A.T last night. Definitely drop proof. One time I got mad at those mean boys and slammed it on the hardwood floor. It was fine. If it could take that, it could take anything.

Overall

Great phone. I love the Caller Id, love how the phone looks and feels. I like how it is inexpensive and drop proof. I like the nice size buttons and the reception is 100%. This is a no problem phone. Great phone, excellent buy.

Thanks for reading,

Danielle
