| KCFemme's Full Review: Panasonic KX TC1720 900 MHz 2-Line Cordless Phone |
This particular Panasonic phone has some really good qualities to it. Unfortunately, it has one drawback that I will have to remember when shopping for my next phone.
The search is on: I went shopping at many different stores, Walmart, Office Max, Best Buy, and more. My ideal phone? Two lines, answering machine, 900 Mhz quality, caller-Id, and cordless .. and can't forget, reasonably priced. Is that too much to ask?
Two lines are difficult to find in a cordless phone. I guess the manufacturers think that only businesses will use multiphone lines. But with two phone lines, and multiple computers at home, I wanted a phone that I could use, regardless of which line was being used. I have found that this has been a definite feature of this phone. When you pick up the phone and someone is on one line, it will automatically give you the other line.
Unfortunately, when it came down to it, I had to settle on a phone without an answering machine. It does have a voicemail function which can be used to leave messages for other people within the family, but that is all.
900 Mhz, the phone range of this phone is better than any I've had before. I can walk a few blocks before it drops the connection. So when I'm sitting out on the front porch, and I get a call, there isn't the static you usually get.
Caller ID - Yep, it has it. But don't expect to find out who is on the other line when you are talking on the first. It just doesn't work.
Features I wasn't looking for, you can program in speed dial numbers, place a caller on HOLD, and clear ALL of your caller ID numbers at one touch.
So far this phone has served us well. The only problem we have found is that it loses it's charge very quickly. You would expect a phone of this quality to hold a battery charge for more than 8 hours. We have learned to work around it, just leave the phone on the base when you are not using it.
As for recommending it to others, if you are needing all the features I would definitely recommend it. After all, it may have been just a fluke about the battery. But if you are not needing the multi lines, there are a lot of really good quality phones out there that are more reasonably priced.
