Don't Buy, You'll Be Disappointed!

Written: Nov 16 '00 (Updated Jan 07 '01)
Pros:Average Features
Cons:TERRIBLE BUTTON FLAWS!!

It's a Sony, how bad could it be? BAD! We bought the Sony SPP-ID910 about 2 years ago and today it went in the garbage!

I became interested in this phone when a friend told me about it and I needed a cordless phone as well, so we purchased them at the same time. At the time, a 900MHz cordless was the latest technology. It had alot of features, don't get me wrong, but the quality of the product became worse as time went on. For the first few months, the phone was perfect. But then the buttons became difficult to press, a problem that resulted in the retirement of this phone in our home.

A MAJOR FLAW:
Basically, the number keys are an ENORMOUS problem! If you wanted to make a phone call, regularly, you would pick-up a phone and dial the number, right? Well, good luck with this phone. When you press the number keys, they become depressed but the number will not dial. Using a pen to jam the button as far as possible into the phone is the only way to get it to work. And once you finally got the entire phone number dialed, sometimes you would receive a wacky message like, "The number you dialed 111-1111 is not in service" after you dial 625-5925 or whatever regular number you dialed! It was absolutely infuriating!!! I can't tell you how much of a burden it was to simply make a phone call. I recently asked my sister how her phone was and she said she had dumped it months ago due to the same exact button problem.

NICE FEATURES:
The features on this phone are no doubt very good. I mean it, the phone would be average if it would simply function correctly! Caller-ID, tons of speed dial, spare battery charger and I liked the "extention in use" message that popped-up whenever my husband was online or something - it was nice because I knew not to pick-up the phone.

I would rate the quality during use below-average - fuzziness was a problem even if you changed channels. Also worth mentioning, the phone is unusually heavy for a cordless phone. When we replaced this phone (with a GE 2-9930 - LOVE IT!) I compared the two physically and the new one is half the weight! And the overall quality is absolutely perfect! And it has even more features than the Sony did and we paid MUCH less for the GE ($35).

RECOMMENDATION:
Please take my advice and just compare the difference between the buttons on this phone and buttons on another. I'm sure you'll get an idea of what I am talking about. And for features, you'll find them on any new phone for less. I would strongly recommend NOT buying this phone!

Thanks for taking the time to read this review, good luck to you in your cordless phone search!! :)
