| caithnessfan's Full Review: Uniden EXAI 7980 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
I have had my Uniden EXAI7980 cordless phone for about 6
months now and have had no problems at all with it so far.
I purchased it after shopping several stores and comparing
price, and options.
I had just moved into my new old house and needed to get a
phone. My main requirements were, cordless, answering
machine, and reasonable price.
The Uniden EXAI7980 met and exceeded my requirements with
ease.
It is a 900mhz cordless phone with a built in digital
answering machine (no more bother with tapes) which allows
you to store and screen phone messages with a push of a
button. It tells you the date and time (after you've set
them it'll even be accurate)that the message was left and
then play the message. If you want to keep it and go to
the next one you just hit a button and it skips to the
next one. You now have the option to keep or erase
messages at will instead of the old time tapes where it
was usually all or none deletion or keeping.
You can store for speed dial up to 10 phone numbers. The
phone also has a built in caller ID screen (service extra
through your phone company) on the hand set that displays
up to 3 lines of text (number, name if available and time)
and a pager for finding lost hand set when you forget
where you had it last.
The pager will continue beeping until the set is found and
a button pushed, unlike some other models that will only
beep for a limited time then stop.
The base unit has a built in speaker phone as well that is
activated by the push of a single button (handy if a call
comes in while you are looking for the hand set).
Voice and sound quality is fair on the speaker phone but it
is a bit too sensitive and picks up lots of background
noises as well which makes it hard to use if the house is
not fairly quiet.
There is a jack in the hand set for a hands free unit as
well which can come in handy if you are cooking or
whatever and can't use a hand or shoulder for the hand set.
The range on this unit is good. So far I've been able to
take it outside the house to my car and still use it with
minimal degradation up to 20 feet and through the stucco
wall of the house (okay, I had the window open too but I
don't know how much that helped.) and have even made a
trip to the basement while talking with minimal problems
with the signal.
The caller ID can store up to 30 numbers and the message
recorder can hold up to 15 min worth of recordings.
With the speaker phone, you can also monitor a room
remotely with a pin code entered and the same pin code
allows you to access messages remotely as well.
I got my phone on sale for $54.95 I think that regular price it was $79.00. It is one of the best
cordless phone systems that I've found in the under $100
range.
The only down side that I found was that it only came in
black but then again black goes with everything right?
