| ImAmes's Full Review: Uniden EXAI 7980 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
When my husband and I moved to the Fox Cities, we wanted to buy a new phone. It had to be cordless, because I was pregnant, and it needed to have an answering machine so that we didn't need to buy that as well. We found the Uniden EXAI7980 Cordless Phone at our local Target Store for around $60. We read the box over, seemed like a great deal, and took it home without any reservation.
It is a fairly easy phone to operate. It comes in a black grey color, with no others colors exposed on it. The phone itself has your basics plus some fin extras- numbers 0-9, talk button, memory key, flash button, caller ID button, volume and ringer controls, delete key, select, redial, and channel buttons as well. The directions are easy to follow, and explain how to use the memory key and how to put people's names and numbers into memory.
I love the Caller I.D. feature that is built right into the phone, and depending on what phone company you use, you will either see the number only, or both the name and number. It stores the incoming calls information on the phone's small screen, and does NOT delete the info until you manually hit the delete button yourself. The called I.D. screen is easy to read, day or night, and has a small light for those calls you get during the evening hours.
The cordless phone has a small antenna, but seems to pick up phone calls just fine. I rarely ever have had to switch channels on the phone, or make sure I was in range from the base. It is powered by a D3.6 Volt Battery, and recommends using a Uniden battery for replacement. The phone is charged by laying it on it's back on the phone's base. If the battery dies, which it will a million times we have found, keep it on the phone base for a good 24 hour period.
The answering machine, which is nestled in the base, is also easy to operate and follow. It takes the regular small answering machine cassettes, and allows you a small time frame to leave your message for others to hear. To place a message, just press the Voice Message button, or to leave yourself a reminder for things that need to be done, you can also use the Voice Memo Key. To find out if people have left you messages, you need to look in the small black window. If you have a number flashing, that will indicate how many messages you have and flashing means that you have not heard or played them yet. To play your messages, simply hit the play/stop button. If you would like to stop the message, press the button again, and to skip or delete the message, hit the skip and delete keys- again, everything pretty much explainable. Their is a moveable antenna located on the phone base to help with phone reception.
You have the option of keeping your answering machine turned on or off, and your phone will still work even if the answering machine is off. There is also a clock button to change the time that your messages are taken, and also a page button to locate the cordless phone when it get's lost in your piles of laundry on the bed!
I had no problem with this phone system until a couple of months ago when the machine kept shutting off by itself, and the phone would die after being charged for days upon days.We replaced it with 2 different brand batteries, and it still did not work. We tried to contact the company, and got absolutely nowhere with them, so we have decided to let it die a slow death until we can afford a new one. You will know when it is dying because it will give you a couple beeps, and then silence- it's bad when you don't have another phone! We wound up having to buy a cheap $10 phone to be the back up for this piece of garbage.
I can't say I would recommend the Uniden EXAI7980 Cordless Phone because the Company doesn't back up their product, and it is alot of money to flush down the toilet. Research your phones before you buy them, and DO NOT rely on what the box says! Good Luck!
