| amyann16's Full Review: Uniden EXAI 7980 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
My last cordless phone/answering machine combo lasted a big 9 months in this home before it malfunctioned. Of course, I did not file the receipt or warranty, so it was off to the store.
I don't mind spending a nice chunk of change on a phone, if it is going to be around for a while. Nine months just isn't going to cut it, I wanted a phone that would provide all the features I wanted and stick around a good amount of time. Oh, and it has to look nice too....
After 45 minutes in the phone aisle at Best Buy, my husband and I decided that we like the features offered by the Uniden EXAI 7980. It wasn't the cheapest phone there, but it was by no means the most expensive either. Oh, and it looked nice too....
The Uniden EXAI 7980 provides 900 MHz Extended Range, plenty for the normal phone coversationalist. The answering machine is digital (no more annoying tapes to rewind, fast forward, etc. !) and provides up to 15 minutes of recording time. You can even select how long your callers have to leave you messages, 1 or 4 minutes are the options. (I'd be in trouble if I was told that I only had 1 minute to leave a voice message, but 4 minutes is plenty of time.)
The answering machine allows you to forward through messages that you have heard before or that are not for you. You can also select to erase specific messages, not having to erase all or none. One quick touch of a button, and you can also repeat the previous messages.
The Uniden EXAI allows you to select the type of ring that it will sound. There are two different sounds, each with a high and low volume. We only have one phone jack in our home, so it is important that our phone ring loud enough for us to hear across the house. The loud setting is very loud, allowing us to hear the phone wherever we are.
In this home, the cordless phones have a tendency to be left in any number of places. The Uniden EXAI provides a page feature, to aid in locating the phone. You simply press the page button on the base, and the phone will beep until it is located. I once had a phone that would only beep for 5 seconds after the page button was pushed. I sometimes had to push the page button 5 or 6 times before that phone would be located, so I really appreciate this feature.
You are sitting down watching your favorite television show, the phone rings. With many other telephone models, one would have to get up and look at the telephone base to see the caller ID screen. With the Uniden EXAI7980, the caller ID screen is located right on the telephone. Now I don't have to run to the base to find out whether I should answer the phone. For those with Caller ID and call waiting, this phone will also provide the phone numbers of incoming phone calls when you are currently on the phone (You must subscribe to this service through your telephone company). The Caller ID will store up to 30 numbers and names in the memory.
You can also store up to 10 numbers in the memory dialing. Storing the numbers is fast and easy, and retrieving them to dial is even easier. The numbers and names are clearly displayed on your caller id screen.
Like most answering machines, you can retrieve your messages from a remote phone, through use of a programmed access code. The phone allows you to choose a toll saver option that allows you to tell when you have messages based upon whether the phone picks up after a certain number of rings.
The Uniden EXAI 7980 also provides the option of connecting headphones to the cordless and attaching the telephone to your pants via a sturdy belt clip. Although I have not used this option, I can easily see how this can be very convenient. Too many times I have had to play "charades" with my husband when I am on the telephone.
Did I mention that this phone looks nice? The buttons are clearly marked, and the screen displays are easy to read. When shopping for this phone, I noticed that a large number of telephones are overloaded with buttons. YIKES! Provide me with the features, but with less clutter. This phone does just that.
This telephone provides many useful features that are easy to utilize. I have had many phones in the past that provide many useful services, but were too complicated to even try to use.
We haven't owned this telephone for very long, yet. However, the combination of great features and easy use (and it is nice looking), makes it easy to say that we are happy with our purchase of the Uniden EXAI 7980.
