We searched for a long time before we found the phone of our dreams. The Uniden EXAI 7980 fit the bill perfectly. It is lightweight and compact. It has a digital answering machine. It has Caller ID directly on the handset. That feature is a godsend since you can pick up the phone wherever it is in the house and see who's calling without having to run to the base, almost breaking a leg in the process. (If I sound as if I speak from experience, it's because I do!) The sound quality is unbeatable...crystal clear. There are several volume settings for both the handset and the answering machine. The remote pager is wonderful as well, since our phone tends to end up in the oddest places. We use the pager function quite often! You can place the receiver face up or face down on the base. The display lights up when you dial, so you can use the phone in less-than-perfect lighting!
Probably the best thing about this phone is the durability. I have dropped it at least twice, and my 2 young sons have each knocked it off the counter. Each time, the cover for the battery pack came off, but I slipped it back on with no problem, and the phone still works perfectly! I was sure something would be wrong, but have been pleasantly surprised!
I highly recommend this phone to anyone.
