There are few things in this world that really, and I mean really, get under my skin. One of these things is static, and with my recent choices in telephones, I can consider myself an expert in the field of annoying static.

I now have a good phone with no static and I am finally happy with the overall product in the Uniden TRU248

But, hey, what do you care if I am happy? You need to know if YOU will be happy with this product, and to help you decide, here is a short list of the defining features of this phone:

The self-explanatory features:

Storage of up to 50 numbers in memory
15 minutes recording time

The less explained features:

LCD Screen: Glows in the dark, and has three lines of text. I have yet to own a phone with more room and an easier to read screen. It also displays the amount of time you've been talking, which can be a handy feature for long-distance calls or similar situations. This screen is one of my favorite features of this phone, and is a major buying point in my opinion.

Digital Answering Machine: Stores up to 15 minutes of messages, and is more or less a good machine, but I have encountered 2 problems.

1)Trouble with erasing messages. I have only been able to erase messages while they were playing, and it is kind of frustrating. For example, I have to play the message once to hear it, then play it again to erase it in mid-play.

2)Automatic recording feature: This is not a big problem and can be easily fixed. The answering machine can be programmed to play a previously-recorded message instead of recording one yourself. You can always change it, and I recommend doing so, because I have had countless people call my phone and think they dialed the wrong number because a robot picks up :)

Keypad: Lights up as well, for all of those late-night phone calls from dark closets.

How does this phone compare with other similar phones?

Reception/sound: I would rate this phone a 7/10 in the area of sound. Similar 2.4 GHz models from Panasonic have a little better track record for sound, and are a little more clear on the receiving end of the phone, but then again, you will pay for it.

Retro look: This phone is very stylish and for those who like to have their accessories look cool, I would recommend this phone. 9/10

Durability: A lot of new phones have a very "plastic" feel to them, but this Uniden model feels somewhat more solid, and seems as if it will last for some time.

Overall, for the money, there are few phones that will provide you, the consumer, with more satisfaction. I strongly recommend this phone to anyone looking to upgrade to the new 2.4GHz phones.
