| Bluesguy2770's Full Review: Vtech VT 1920 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
I really like this phone...it is my favorite of all that I have owned. I will even try to avoid using other phones in my house b/c I like this one so much better. I have used this phone as a gift several times and I know several people that have the same model. My parents, brother, and ex girlfriend's parents all have one and have had no problems out of any of them.
Features
Caller ID/Call Waiting...this allows you to see who is calling you, even when you are on the phone w/ someone else. 50 Call Memory...this just means it will remember the caller ID information for the last 50 calls. 900 MHz...w/o getting technical, this basically means that you get more range and more clarity. Belt Clip...this has to be my favorite feature. I like this phone so much that when I am at home and doing stuff around the house, I just slip it on my belt and I never have to look for it. It is always right there. I wish all my cordless phones had this feature. Additionally, b/c of the extended range of a 900 MHz phone, you may want to take it w/ you when you go outside. Clipping it to your belt makes this very easy. Extra Battery Charger...this is a little compartment in the phone base where you can charge an additional battery. I mean, how much use is a cordless phone if you have to charge it all the time? This way, you can just swap batteries. However, it doesn't ship w/ an extra battery. If you have this phone beside your bed, then you will love the backlit buttons and LCD display.
Pros
It is always clear and works perfectly despite the fact I have dropped it on tile floors several times. Like I said, I love the belt clip. It makes the phone so handy. I think it fits very comfortably in your hand and seems to be the perfect weight. It is heavier than most cordless phones out there now, but I don't necessarily need something the size of a cell phone either. The backlit buttons and display are great. Most caller ID phones I have seen have a backlit display...but most seem to forget about the buttons. I love the fact that I can key in my whole number to dial before actually picking up the line. You can key in your number and then press phone...it will dial it for you then.
Cons
The display it only two lines and is really too small. I'd prefer for all the caller ID information to be displayed rather than having to page through it. Also, to there are some buttons that are multifunction which requires you to put it in caller ID mode before you can page through the caller ID information. It's one button press, but it is a bit aggravating. You have to be careful when you key in the number and then press 'phone' for it to dial this number...or you select one from caller ID history. Anyway, be careful to not put the phone to your ear until it is done dialing. The dial tones can be heard through the earpiece...and it is way too loud. I actually consider this a danger of the phone b/c it could possibly cause harm to the ear...or at least scare you. I've never used the memory feature of this phone or any other phone at my house. I prefer to know the person's number so I can remember it so I can call them when I don't have my phone as a crutch.
All in all...I really like this phone...but moreover, I like Vtech. Their current models have taken care of some of the shortcomings of this model. I'm kind of jealous now b/c I paid $99 for this phone and now I can go buy it for about $50 or less...plus I could get a much better phone for a little more. When my other phone dies (or this one) will be getting a Vtech again...but I want the speakerphone on the base w/ a digital answering machine. And maybe I'll actually get an extra battery this time.
