| trthomp's Full Review: Vtech VT 1920 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
While I was pregnant with our third child I decided I wanted a cordless phone that had caller I.D. capabilities built in. I figured that with it, I would have more freedom. The kids and I could be outside playing, and I would only have to take the call IF I wanted to!!
I would not have to disrupt time with my kids by answering the phone when it was a telemarketer or someone else I didn't want to speak to. I would have the option of knowing who it was that was calling me BEFORE I said hello.
My husband wanted a digital cordless. I chalk that up to the fact that he is in the Navy, and works for the NSA! I really don't see a reason for it. I don't do secret business over the phone. Credit card transactions and such are done from a regular phone attached to its' base.
I went on line to see how expensive this was going to be. I started with a military shopping site. They had this phone on sale for $69.99, plus a $40.00 rebate!! We hadn't intended to buy a phone so quickly, or unexpectedly. We had in mind to look at them all and then decide. We decided that for $29.99, we could afford to make a split decision!
The phone arrived 2 days later, and I couldn't wait to try it out! I plugged it into the wall and let it charge. FINALLY it was ready for me to use!! By this time, my husband was almost ready to leave work. I called him, and told him the phone had arrived.
When he arrived home and realized I had called him on a CORDLESS phone, he was surprised. I knew the connection was clear on my end, but he said it was very clear on his end also. Thus we set out to program the phone...
The cordless phone that this one replaced, was nearly impossible to program. Not this one. You punch in the number you want to save, press the "mem" button, and the "location" you want to save it in(#'s from 1-20). That's it!! Your phone is programmed!
We had about 4 numbers in when it rang. Ohh, our first call on the new phone!! My husband looked to see who it was. It was some friends of ours, so we let the phone company answering service answer it for us. Our friends left us a message there. Ohh, the phone told us we had just received 1 new call, who had just called, and also that they had left us a message!! We were way too excited over this phone!!
Once someone has called you, this phone will store the call in the caller I.D. section, up to 50 calls. If someone calls, you can return the call by simply pressing the caller I.D.(CID) button, and then the "phone" button. The phone does everything for you!! If you need to dial the area code, you simply dial 1 if needed, then the area code, then you proceed as above.
The "phone" button is also your "flash button to use with caller I.D. The phone beeps, the incoming caller's name and number appear on the screen, and then you can decide to disrupt you call for a new call or not. You don't have to rudely ask someone to hold to answer an unwanted call!
The phone has an extra battery that enables you to use the phone without putting it on the charger. When the battery is low, you can just switch them out. Great as long as you get the warning soon enough, or you realize it has been a little long since you swapped batteries!! I hung up on my husband the other day because of this!! He was calling from the middle of the Persian Gulf!! Not exactly a good thing, but it WAS user error!!
The extra battery also enables you to use the phone during power outages, so this is a plus. Fortunately we have yet to have to use it for this!! Extra batteries can be purchased at Sears for $19.99 plus tax.
This phone is built for life. I am convince that it is indestructible!!! I have thrown it(yes, I am not proud of that, but it wasn't at anybody), I have dropped it, and every so often, my 2 year old gets a hold of it!! The phone just goes on and on....
As for reception, I already told you how clear it is to talk on. As for range, I am not sure. It has always performed well for me while outside a few houses away.
This phone has been the best cordless phone we have had!! I just scrolled down, and it doesn't ask if it would make a good gift. It would, for new parents especially!!
