| jhelms's Full Review: Vtech VT 1920 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
This was the second 900mhz phone that our household purchased and right away we noticed the sound quality was lacking. We purchased it mainly for the Caller ID features and 900mhz was a must for clarity as well.
While the features (mainly the backlighting, caller ID / call waiting caller ID, and a few others) are great, the sound quality is horrible! Our 5 year old non-900mhz cordless phone has 2x as much distance capability and better overall sound quality.
The only reason we didn't send it back to be fixed is because a) someone lost the receipt :0 and b) we thought there was some inherent interference in our house (electrical, etc.) that was causing the 900mhz phone to perform at a lower level than our other non-900mhz cordless phones.
We did two things:
#1 Bought another V-Tech (very similar model) for a beach house just to see how the reception would be for it. It was the same! Static on every channel and you could only go a few hundred feet before it starts 'cutting off' on you.
#2 Bought another brand 900mhz phone for our house. The Panasonic phone we bought performs great! We have no problems with reception or call clarity.
Conclusion - I guess there's something about the VTech model that was different from the others. I like the features but the clarity is hard to deal with. Unless I'm going to be within a hundred or so feet of the base I don't use it.
