| CANS4US's Full Review: Vtech VT 9111 900 MHz - Cordless Phone |
This is the time of year when your thoughts began to wander to those of pine trees wafting their smells throughout the house, carols being sung in the crisp night air, tinsel glistening upon the tree, mysterious packages appearing out of nowhere, white bearded fellows in ruby hued velvet suits...well, you get the picture! I must admit, my thoughts were drifting in a similarly pleasant way one evening last week while chatting on the phone with a friend. Suddenly our conversation came to a halt when I realized that my two young sons were laughing hysterically when they should have been quietly playing in the tub. Somewhat reluctantly, I ended the conversation, returned the phone to its cradle and disengaged the cord from around my legs where it had somehow had gotten entangled during our talk.
Making my way quickly down the hall from my room, I noticed another strange sound...the sound of water. Now, you might ask yourself, "why is this so strange, they were taking a bath, right!?!" This was not a normal water sound, but as I discovered upon turning the corner into the bathroom, the sound of water being poured by my youngest, "El Destructo", upon the floor! Controlling my frustration, I instructed his brother to finish up with a shower in my bathroom while I cleaned up both the mess and finished his brother's bath. An hour later, after the floor was clean and the youngest in bed, I joined my son in his room where I found him quietly reading a book. We discussed the evenings happenings and he suggested maybe we needed another cordless phone, that way I could take it with me and keep an eye on things in the process.....Bright child, I thought and started thinking about the possibilities.
The next day, while shopping in a neighborhood store, I ventured on the Electronics aisile and found myself looking at cordless phone, much like our other phone downstairs. Most were bland and black and I turned away only to find myself facing a clearance display full of all things....bright RED CORDLESS PHONES! I was overjoyed and even more so when I saw that though they had originally been $50.00, that they were now marked down to ONLY $24.00! I quickly asked the girl why they were discounted and she replied that there were new models coming soon in different colors and with different UPC #'s so they had been instructed to remove these to make room for the new ones! I quickly snatched one up after learning that there was nothing WRONG with them ....that they were fine!
Upon returning home, I showed it to my son who gave it the "7 year old seal of approval" stating that not only did I get a GOOD DEAL, and it was a "cool" color, but that it had great features too! He informed me that it had a 10 number speed dial, a 30 channel operation, and digital answering...features he assured me would make it a super phone! On top of that, we quickly found that it had a great range, reaching three doors down from our home...a fact we found out while walking outside one day. The page function was also a feature I was glad to have, as I have a habit of starting too many projects at once and forgetting where I leave things! With this feature you simply press a button on the base of the phone and the receiver itself emits a beep which you search for and locate...a "game" my oldest begs to play! The ringer is a nice sounding one as well, not one of those which startle you so much that you drop whatever you are doing everytime it rings! Also, the receiver is so compact that it fits neatly in the back pocket of my jeans, traveling all over with me as I go about my day!
Needless, to say, this phone has become a great favorite in our house and is used constantly, returning only briefly to its cradle for recharging, a rare situation indeed as it holds a charge for up to 5 days at a time. It also has a compartment that holds an extra battery so you always have a spare charged...a feature which I can easily see coming in handy as spring comes round and we are outside more often!
Although "El Destructo" caused me to scrub my floor unnecessarily, he opened the door for a welcome addition to our home! And now, I might add, I can talk on the phone and STILL keep an eye on him so he doesn't decide next time to wash the walls as well!
So, if you have an "El Destructo" of your own at home, or you simply need a great gift for someone on your Holiday list...consider this phone...it just might be what makes your season bright!
