I have some professional background in the television industry and it is possible to get a decent professional PC-based editing system that will work reliably. However, it will probably ingest video over FireWire and edit 25 Mbps video as AVI files. At the end of editing, you then compress to MPEG, WMV, QuickTime or whatever you want. Trying to edit any of these compressed formats is tough enough at the pro level... it's apparently impossible at the amateur level.
And thanks for the comment on the review! I hope that it wasn't too boring to slog through such a long review.

I'm a newbie here and have only written a few reviews. You really "gave a clinic" on writing a thorough product review. I'll use it as inspiration for future reviews I might offer.
BTW, I have worked with that same Dazzle product and experienced similar frustrations. I suspect the whole field or industry is afflicted with non-standard elements which require a much more comprehensively-engineered and documented product than Dazzle has come up with so far. I haven't found any of them to work very well, at least in the affordable price range!
