| golferinfr's Full Review: Pitfall Harry for Xbox |
This is an amazing game that will test all your strengths and weaknesses as a video game player. Pitfall Harry for XBox starts out that Harry has to recover all the members of an expedition.
The first few boards are somewhat easy as search in the jungle frames testing your skills on vine swinging, cliff jumping while in search of lost members, jungle idol artifacts and levers to take you to your next screen.
You meet people along the way that give you weapons and thing you need for the screens ahead, like fire to light jungle lamps, a jungle shield to protect you for natives throwing fire bombs at you to bumble bees in the ice age screens that toss ice balls at you.
As each screen progresses the skill levels get harder, so hard that to me I have to re-trace my steps sometimes to find the levers for the next journey. This is a very detailed game. The graphics are perfectly drawn up. The voices from the jungle men to the voices of the soldiers are very clear.
As you go on in this game Pitfall Harry changes into animals that he has to kill before turning himself back into a human being, part of the native jungle men curses that are brought on to Harry for traveling so far in the jungle.
He also gets captured by the Army Soldiers and has to escape the different camps to one of the top screens. This screen is where the native jungle men have a fight with the soldiers and an all out war begins and Harry is stuck in the middle of it. After going through certain screens you have major tests before going to the next level. Like defeating an over-grown lion, it almost seems impossible but after an hour and total frustration I finally defeated him.
I do not want to give the whole game away but from sling shots to ice picking you way up glacier mountains this is a very interesting game. There is some light violence from killing creatures, jungle men and soldiers along the way but none of it is too graphic. You will enjoy this game very much. Coming from a 48 year old who plays the games to relax after a long day of cutting grass it is a very good game to take my mind off other things. It is very addictive once you start.
The sounds that you hear are very true to life. From the Army soldiers talking to the people that talk to you along the way from different screens. There is not much music on this game except when finishing screens. But you get a wide variety of sounds. When Harry is running you hear the sounds of him breathing harder, you hear the jungle men yelling their war chants. When you hit his raft button the sounds of the air filling up the raft is really cool. There are hundreds of different sounds on this game, most are never seen before.
The graphics on Pitfall Harry are very detailed. Each screen that challenges you there are designs that you think took months to draw. From the columns and idols in the villages, to the death monkeys that try to kill you along your journey look true to form in this animated video game. The ice glaciers that you climb seem so realistic as you hear each stroke of the ice pick Harry swings and hits.
There are maps to show you, your way around the jungle, beware it is very easy to get lost. Have fun !!!!!!!!!
I want to thank CaptinD for letting me express this first challenge in learning how to write my first video game review.
