Pros: It's affordable, useful, comfortable and easy...not to mention machine washable!
Cons: Can be a little tricky at first.
The Bottom Line: Overall, this is the best $40 I ever spent in terms of taking my daughter on outtings with me. It's comfortable. And, really that's the most important thing, right?

Whew. I have finally found the piece of "baby equipment" that will actually allow me to go shopping while my 7 month old daughter is with me! And at $40...it's well worth the money I spent. This Hip Hammock is perfect for me because I can keep her close without having to actually hold her weight with my arms. (As any new parent knows, those babies are HEAVY!)
We own three different carriers, a front pouch by Infantino (we both hate it), this hip pouch (my favorite), and a heavy-duty backpack (my husband loves it). This Hip Hammock is just right for my 5'2" frame, it is not too heavy and it has enough padding to not hurt my shoulder or back. I love it!
How It Works:
The hip hammock fits around your waist like a belt and over your shoulder like a messenger bag. Your child faces into your body, sitting on your hip. It is designed so that the child's weight is carried on your shoulder and hip.
I have to admit, it was a little difficult to get the baby into the hip hammock at first (especially when you're out by yourself)...there is definitely an adjustment period. It didn't last long, though...after just a few outings, I was a pro.
I think this hip-carrier is much more comfortable and natural feeling than either a front-pack carrier or a back-pack carrier. I have never felt like I had to lean forwards or backwards due to weight distribution...which I have felt with other carriers. At first, I did notice that I had sore muscles the day after I wore it, but I think that was more due to me being out of shape than anything else. Eventually, my body adjusted.
Features:
The Straps of the Hip Hammock are very wide and have a large range of adjustment for smaller and larger parents/babies. These large straps make it easy to adjust using only one hand.
The buckles are strong and secure to keep the child safe. I never once felt like she wasn't safe.
The open leg area for the child can accomodate small and large children. (15-35 lbs) You really can use this thing for a long time! Gotta love that!
The Shoulder Strap allows you to use on either left or right hip and has a large pad for your shoulder.
The Inner Fabric is microfleece...which although it's very soft and comfy, can also get very hot.
The Outer Fabric is nice and durable, it's machine washable (always a plus in my book!), ...and it looks pretty good, too.
The back rest is convertable and can be folded down if desired.
There is a handy-dandy key chain.
A Toy Hook is included so you can hang your child's pacifier or a favorite toy. Of course, that means it will be in your way the whole time...
Overall Impression:
Frankly, I love my hip hammock! I'm so glad I purchased it. It makes outings so much easier on my back and allows me to stay out a lot longer than I would have been able to if I had to carry my daughter! I would definitely recommend it to parents of young ones!
