Pros: Screen rotation, compact car bag that attatches to headrest, 12 month limited warranty
Cons: low volume, car adapter connection not working, viewing screen rotation broke, dependent on remote
The Bottom Line: I would seriously look at something else unless you plan on using this unit in the house. It is not durable enough for frequent use in a car.

| lou432triston's Full Review: Polaroid PDV-0820T 8 in. Portable DVD Player |
I bought this player 10 months ago. It was great at first. I really liked the 8in. screen as opposed to the 7in. I liked the clean compact way the unit attaches on the back of the headrest. My only original gripe was the sound quality, it really is too low. It is barely loud enough for my son by himself in the back seat. I am a single mom, and it is always quiet when we travel except for the DVD playing. If there was any conversation or music playing, he would not be able to hear it.
After a couple of long car trips, I started liking it less and less. You have to completely unplug the unit from the car adapter and take it out of the bag to change a movie. That is stopping every 45min to an hour with Disney movies. After continued use, now the car adapter is not staying plugged in very well. It frequently shorts out and re-starts the movie (much to the extreme irritation of my 2.5 year old). I have had to wrap a rubber band around the unit to hold it in place. Yesterday, the rotate option on the viewing screen quit working. Now we have to turn the unit upside down to watch it. The remote has always been cranky too. Sometimes you have to mash and mash on the enter button to ever get it to play. AND by the way.. you HAVE TO HAVE the remote to work this unit. Keeping up with it is a little nerve racking at times. It does not have play buttons when you use it in the car bag. The car bag is also starting to fall apart. One of the plastic snaps broke this month, so I was tying one side down. The bag has also melted all over the bottom of the player. It is not meant to be left in the car on really hot days apparently.
I had decided to buy a new DVD even though this one is less than a year old and I paid $280.00 for it, but it was time. That is not lasting near long enough in my limited budget opinion however. During my search, I Googled Polaroid and found a customer service number. Apparently this unit has an additional 12 month limited warranty, besides the full 90 day warranty. They require a receipt, so if you buy this unit please stash it for safe keeping in case you need it. For $50.00 they will replace the unit. I packed it up today and am sending it in for a replacement. I wouldn't have spent much more than $50.00 for another one however. My next unit will have the option that feeds DVDs from the side.
I hope Polaroid honors the warranty. I will let you know.
UPDATE:
Polaroid honored the warranty. I sent the player to the Polaroid Warranty Service Center. I just recieved a brand new in the box DVD player today, just one week later. It is not the exact same player, but it is an 8inch screen with the swivel. I wonder if this one comes with a new 12 month warranty???
