| mtodde's Full Review: Polk Audio RT3 Speaker |
I have had these speakers for 5 1/2 years now. For what I paid at the time, $250 for the pair, they were the best sounding speakers I could find for the money.
As my system has evolved these have migrated from my main stereo speakers and the front speakers of my surround system to being the satellite speakers of my surround system (I have Polk floor standing speakers in front now).
For a small bookshelf, they really put out a tremendous amont of sound and bass! Polk really did a good job on these. The power handling is supposed to top off at 100 watts. I have been using them with a Denon AVR3300 which puts out a true 105 watts per channel and have had no problems whatsoever.
One nice feature of these speakers is that they have a built in mounting bracket on the back. If you have space limitations this may be handy; of course you may get a little bit too much base reverberation in that arrangement.
I have been very happy with these speakers on the low end. The high end may not have quite the same separation or imaging of more expensive speakers, but I mainly listen to old jazz and these are fine. If you primarily listen to classical, spend some extra money and get a 3 way bookshelf. If you listen to rock, these are incredible.
You can probably pick up a used pair at a very good price and get years of enjoyment for them. They would be great as the main speakers in a small stereo system or as part of a surround system. They would also be very effective for the secondary audio zone.
