About Me:

I Have The Power to Make Four Out Of One.

Written: Feb 12 '08
Pros:Easy to install and use,
Cons:None, as of yet
The Bottom Line: Due to the easy of installing the item and using, I would say that this is a good purchase.

Recently, at work, I needed a new computer. Unfortunately, having to keep pace with some our customers, I had to get a Windows Vista Computer. This review is not about Vista. Anyway, the new computer only had a four High Speed USB ports on the back and two on the side. I have all four rear USB ports taken up. I don’t like using the side ports. My computer is on the floor beneath my desk. Every time that I plug something in to the side USB ports, I manage to kick it and break it. Moving my computer is not an option. I needed to do something so I did. I remembered that I had a 4 port USB hub in my desk. I took it out and attached it to my computer.

The hub that I am talking about is the Dynex USB 2.0 4 Port Hub. If I remember right, it cost the company about $40.00. It is an attachment for you computer that will multiply a single USB Port into Four Ports. The port came packaged a Quick Start Guide, a power supply, and an USB cable to attach it to the computer. It is also very easy to use. Simply plug the USB cable in to the computer and the other end into the hub. Once done you are ready to go.

The Dynex USB 2.0 4 Port Hub has some pretty neat features. Besides the obvious, the four USB ports on the back of it, it has five indicator lights and a place for a power adapter to be attached. There are a total of five lights on the front of the hub. The middle one is a blue light that indicates that the hub is getting power. The other four lights correspond to the four ports on the other side of the unit. They illuminate green when there is something plugged into the corresponding port. For example: If you have items in port one and four; the power light, light one, and light four will illuminate. I did mention a power supply somewhere in this review. The power supply is not truly necessary. The hub feeds off the computers power and in turn will power the devices that are plugged into it. The only time that the power supply is necessary is if the Dynex USB 2.0 4 Port Hub doesn’t have the strength to power a device that is plugged in to it. If this happens, simply attach the power supply for that extra boost of power.

The Quick Start Guide that came with the product is pretty limited. It pretty much has the break down of the port and its parts. The guide also tells us what Operating systems that it can work on (I’ll list this later). There is a section on troubleshooting guide as well as the package contents. Finally there are sections on installation, radio & TV interference, and the limited lifetime warranty. It sure seems like a lot but the way it is designed gives you only the basics.

I have been happy with the Dynex USB 2.0 4 Port Hub. It is an incredibly easy product to use. It has helped me attach items to my computer with out having to worry that I was going to break it. So far it has worked without any problems. It was very easy to install (plug it in and don’t worry). If you are in need of a USB port Hub, I would highly recommend this product.

Thank you for reading,
Brett

System Requirements:
Windows 95 OSR2.0, 98, ME, 200, XP (and it working on Vista. Vista was on out when my company purchased this several years ago).
