| ask_1's Full Review: Frontier NEX IIe (32 MB) MP3 Player |
I have owned a fair share of MP3 players in my time (well, four actually) and whereas none of those have been exeptionally bad, this MP3 player has them all beaten.
The reason I have been shopping so much around is that I am both an avid runner and a patient commuter. Hardly a day goes by that I do not listen to MP3's. My preferred media is audio books in MP3 (which are rather longer than your average Pop/rock/death metal song), so I have been looking for a player with the best battery life and upgradable memory out there. I believe the NEX IIe is just that.
Portability: The Nex IIe is not the smallest player around because of the 2 AA batteries inside, but it is still pretty darn small compared to other players with display and CF cards.
Sound: Excellent. Probably also one of the loudest I have heard.
Ease of Use: A lot has already been written about that so I wont go into details. I will however say that I like the fact that you can use it one-handed via the jog-wheel. The resume function is also an excellent addition that not all players support for some strange reason. With other players you risk listening to the first two hours of Harry Potter without any uption of saving your position. Finally, the back-lit display shows you all the info you need at once: KB/S, remaining time, File tag, L/R volume et.c.
Battery life: I get 20 hours on the best alkaline AA bats. Also, You can use the enclosed adapter for playing files without batteries. I had a rechargable M-Station and the battery life was just about 3 hours.
Durability: The player seems durable enough, and comes in a great carrying case. It is still plastic, however, and the battery flap doesn't look like it would survive being manhandled by your younger sister for long
Final thought: The included headphones are o.k. if you go for the spacey look. When will MP3 player manufacturers ever learn to bundle their players with a decent pair of Sony or Senheissers!
