| mugglestuff's Full Review: Aiwa XP-R230 Personal CD Player |
I bought this player to replace a old Aiwa I had that the hinge finally broke on. I had the XP-R230 out of the box and playing with all the controls fairly mastered after five minutes all without reading the manual. I later "cheated" and and checked the manual to make sure I understood all the buttons. I chose this unit to get a basic portable CD player with AM/FM tuner. I have owned several Aiwa audio devices and have had good luck with ALL of them. This unit is light but not too light that it has a fake feel too it. The buttons are simple and pretty much self explanatory. I wish it had a backlight but you can only find them on the higher dollar MP3 disk players as I looked for players with them and consider it a major selling plus. The bass booster (DSL: Dynamic Super Linear bass) does not give a huge boost to the bass of the music but I am not a big fan of a lot of bass. There is a noticable increase when you turn it on, just not enough to rattle your teeth. The volume dial is on the side and recessed to the point that you have to work at it to adjust the volume, no accidental volume bumps here! I am very happy with it and listen to a lot of home burned CD's with it. Player will recharge NiCd batteries if installed but is not compatable with NiMH which is what I use now as they do not develop a memory like the NiCd's.
