I have owned 2 of these units I outgrew my 6 Gb Player and opted for the 20 Gb recorder which has endured commuting for over 2 1/2 years without any glitches. But I would like to spread the word about this units' ultimate upgradeability. There is a Independent programming consortium called Rockbox that has rewritten the operating system and features from the ground up, thereby eliminating any bugs that may have been present in the factory flash bios. They have a list of feature enhancements a mile long, I have seen no other player come close. The playlists are very flexible and work well even with thousands of songs in them. Adding features like variable Pitch control is great for musicians, the sound quality doesn't suffer from being processed. It instantly makes all 12 keys achievable for any song. It also sports a customizable "While playing" screen where you can define which ID tag info you want to see, which Font, style etc. The sound quality of live recordings has been improved, while still not as good as a DAT, it is acceptable, recording is very easy and handy to use. Also anyone who's not afraid to upgrade their hard drive in their PC should be able to handle upgrading this one if they find the space requirements too limiting (I put a 80GB Drive in mine). The big bumpers provide good shock protection. And finally it performs well being shook while jogging, I've never seen it skip or delay playback, but it is a little heavy. I would like to see someone with an I-Pod compare it with these capabilities.
