| madame_x's Full Review: Archos Jukebox Studio (10 GB) MP3 Player |
I received the Archos Studio Jukebox 10 as a Christmas gift and was pretty excited until I started to read all the negative reviews on it. I was a little worried until I charged the batteries and hooked mine up to my computer. Everything went without a hitch--my computer recognized the USB device immediately and I installed the driver from the CD with no problems whatsoever (running Windows 2000).
After I installed the driver, I popped open Windows Explorer and dragged several folders of MP3's to the device--also no problems here.
Once the files were copied over, I put on the headphones and was able to navigate through the menus easily. All of my directories appeared in the display. I simply opened one and pressed the play button and the songs started playing.
A lot of folks have complained about the manual but I rarely read them anyway so I didn't notice its inadequacies. About the only negative comment I could make is the quality of the headphones--they can't handle much volume. I connected a pair of Sony's that I had from an older Walkman and there was a significant improvement in sound quality, although in doing this you lose the ability to adjust the volume without scrolling through the menu (not a big deal to me).
I'd have to say I've had much better luck than others seem to have with this device. I plan to use it propped on a piece of gym equipment, not actually jogging and I haven't had a problem with it skipping simply by walking around with it (or even the time I knocked it off my desk).
I'm completely happy with my gift so far. If you're technically savvy, I think you'll have good luck with this MP3 player. You sure can't beat the capacity for the price.
