| RedLineX's Full Review: Frontier NEX II (64 MB) MP3 Player |
The NEX is a new player in the generation of MP3 players. It’s part of the third generation and I would have to say players really haven’t gotten much better than this. First of all notice the size of this, it’s as small as a beeper. It’s the smallest pager out there, well besides the music clip by Sony. The sleek design looks really cool and small size makes it easy to carry around. But who cares how an MP3 player looks, its really how it sounds.
No questions, the NEX sounds great. The audio is crystal clear and it you can turn up the volume a lot louder than the other MP3 players. The low volume used to be a problem with the first and some of the second generation MP3 players. That problem is finally gone. The tunes seem to be equal quality to a CD player when encoded at 128 Kb and played on the NEX. If you don’t feel like you’re getting good sound, switch headphones. The phones that come bundled with the NEX aren’t the best on the market. That’s a problem with all MP3 players actually, the headphones bundled in with them are typically quite poor. But since the NEX is so cheap (around $180) buying a nice set of headphones shouldn’t be a problem.
The NEX also supports a lot of interface and software features. The first thing you’ll notice is that the screen, even though small, supports ID3 tags! The ID3 tag holds where the song name and artist and information is located. Not even all the second generation players had that ability! The idea of skins are cool, while they’re not great its certainly given me something to look forward too in the future.
The main problem with the NEX besides the headphones is the low battery life, but that’s a problem in every MP3 player. I’m just waiting for the player that you can dock and charge. Overall the NEX rocks. It has crystal clear music, support of the latest technology and 64 MB of RAM to boot. Pick one up they’re cheap as well. As of now this is the top choice player to get.
