Pros: Quality for the price. We bought two, one for my wife and myself.
Cons: Minor Cons with unit, can be overlooked.
The Bottom Line: Good for Mall walkers, hikers, bikers and general play. Haven't dropped it yet so I don't know how durable it is.

| bigmicawl's Full Review: Rio Sport S30S (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I like it alot for the price, $59.99 at Wally World. It has a lockout for accidental bumping of controls, backlight w/adjustable ON time, Scrolling Display, Equalizer with presets like Jazz, Rock etc. w/separate bass n treble adjustments, digital volume control buttons. You can bookmark songs, play all or choose certain tracks, has a contrast adjustment for LCD display, Clock w/Date, stopwatch, FM tuner w/channel presets, FM channel scan, Power save feature, if left in pause mode etc., 64 MB memory and has a memory expansion slot, Comes with a armband holder and earphones.(let your dog have the earphones to chew on, they stink)We bought the Sony MDR-W08 earphones they work great with this unit. Has a Language feature also.
It uses 1 AAA battery and it does tend to eat up the juice, especially with the backlight on too much, but it is a real nice bright backlight though.
But they say it can be charged through the included USB cable if you use a NIMH battery, I haven't tried that yet. I use Ray O Vac maximum plus batteries, I think they are even better than Energizer that I have swore by for years. I have fallen asleep with the unit on, it played the 11 WMA/MP3 songs I had on it and it still had power left in the morning, but like I said it goes into standby shortly after the last song plays if not set to repeat or buttons being touched.
I personally get about two days out of one AAA battery. The battery is a real snap to change, not like some units I've seen.
In FM mode when the backlight is on, there is quite a bit of static for some reason, but when the light is out the FM is clear. The armband holder is comfortable but the plastic case that holds the Player makes it annoying when using the buttons as the cutouts for the buttons are not quite cut in the right spots to align with the buttons.
I have to use my pinkie to turn it off and on when the unit is in the holder but I also am a 6'3 man with big hands.
Like I said it eats up battery juice like there is no tomorrow, so carry a spare AAA around with you.
The RIO Music Manager Program is simple to use but when I tried to select 5 songs at once to download to the player it locked up. If I select one or two songs at a time it works fine. That might just be a bug in my system too and not the fault of the RMM program.
But I really love it, a lot more fun and convenient than carry that old bulky CD player around.
